September is Pain Awareness Month

Chronic Pain and Research - Events for September

Each September is Pain Awareness Month, an important opportunity to help educate the public and raise awareness in the community. To start off the month, the Helping to End Addiction Long-term Initiative, or NIH HEAL Initiative, partnered with the US Pain Foundation to present a webinar. The September 1, 2023 webinar was recorded and is now viewable.

The group presented on "Chronic Pain and Research: How NIH is committed to finding better treatments for people with pain." You can watch the recorded webinar here.

Joining Cindy Steinberg, National Director of Policy and Advocacy for the US Pain Foundation, were Rebecca G. Baker, PhD, Director of NIH HEAL; and two researchers involved with HEAL - Afton Hassett, Psy.D., and Catherine Chong, PhD.

Dr. Hassett gives an overview of research within the Back Pain Consortium (BACPAC).

There are many more resources available to raise awareness and get involved, including daily social media education campaigns, in-person and online events, and local support group events within specific geographical regions. You can also join more webinars that are planned for the month. Visit the US Pain Foundation’s website on Pain Awareness Month for details.
